LISA GERNAND, LMSW (she/her)
CHILD & ADOLESCENT PSYCHOTHERAPIST
Lisa is new to the Well Bean team and private practice but has been working as a Social Worker in Children’s and Youth Mental Health in both Michigan and Minnesota for several years. With a practice style grounded in genuine curiosity about the function of a child’s behavior and their accompanying feelings, Lisa approaches clients with compassion and care to help them uncover, process, and learn effective coping strategies or replacement behaviors. As a therapist to kids and teens, Lisa aims to help her clients increase their feelings of contentment and positive self-concept, to express their feelings in various and authentic ways, and to balance their developing autonomy with safe and healthy connection to others. While the educational system has been the medium through which Lisa has primarily worked with kids, she also has experience working within the Juvenile Justice system and privileges genuine collaboration with a child’s support system and family to help nurture growth and the development of new social/emotional skills. As a 200 hour Certified Yoga Teacher, Lisa also enjoys incorporating Mindful movement, breathing, and grounding practices into sessions. Lisa is a school social worker by day currently working in a high school, but with several years of experience in K-5 settings helping students with significant behavior challenges and their teachers learn ways to feel safe at school.
Lisa earned her BA from Kalamazoo College in 2010 and her MSW from the University of Minnesota in 2015. She holds her clinical and macro license in social work from the state of Michigan and is additionally certified as a school social worker.
