Mind Jar Meditation

9/29/2015

We often use the Mind Jar during Well-Bean classes as a visual tool to explain how we can use meditation as a way to help calm our bodies and minds and bring our awareness to the present moment.   By shaking the Mind Jar we can see that the jar becomes cloudy, it's difficult to see clearly as the glitter moves swiftly around in the jar.  This is a great visual for teaching what happens in our bodies and minds when we experience lots of stress, worry or emotions like anger, frustration or even too much excitement.

After shaking up the Mind Jar, place it on the floor or on a hard surface in front of you.  Bring your attention and watch the jar as you take full, deep breaths.  Just as the Mind Jar starts to settle and become more clear, so does our body and mind.

From this place of calm and ease we are better able to access and strengthen connections to the area of the brain that helps us manage our emotions and solve problems more skillfully.
